Commander Lyons Acceptance Speech at Convention
Honored Guests, General Taylor, General Flynn, General Fellows, Our Angels the Nurses, Members of the Bataan Veterans Organizations, our Albuquerque hosts and our officers and members of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor.
Our 1985 Family Reunion has been quite a memorable affair. The American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor is like one big family. We are more than blood brothers as we have walked in each others shoes. Since 1946 this is the largest number of brothers I have ever been privileged to see at one time. Our wheelbarrow fully of happy memories is overflowing.
I am not going to make a lot of rash promises to you tonight. But, I am going to promise you that I, as your commander and our corps of officers will do our very best to serve you in the coming year. To serve, lead, represent you and be of assistance to you is part of our goals.
I am very cognizant of the honor you have bestowed upon me.
I will not knowingly let your down.
Call me, tell me, write me. If I can be of assistance in any way to you at any time please let me know.
I do want to thank all of the members of Western States Chapter for coming to Albuquerque to be with us at this time. Your loyalty and support is always important to me. By the way, our new chapter commander, Sol Fromer, is celebrating his birthday today.
Our sincere "thank you" for having faith in me and electing me as your Commander.
God bless all of you and have a safe trip home. Till we meet again, take good care of yourselves.
