Rev. Herman C. Baumann
Herman C. Baumann was born in Etna, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He went to Duquesne Prep School and graduated from Duquesne University and from St. Vincent College. He served as an assistant pastor at St. Patrick Church in the Strip District of Pittsburgh from 1935 to 1941 following his ordainment. Then, in 1941, he received an Army conscription and was stationed as a chaplain in the Philippines. When the Japanese forces overtook Corregidor, he became a POW until the war ended. Upon his liberation, he went back to St. Patrick's until 1950 and also became an assistant pastor for St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin in Whitehall until 1953. Afterward, he served as pastor to various churches, retiring in 1975. Rev. Baumann died of heart failure on May 25, 1990 in the Vincentian Home in McCandless, Pennsylvania.
